The Nutrition Collaborative of Rock County (NCRC) recently developed its first ever strategic plan! Check out the Collaborative's upcoming goals in the NCRC 2024-2026 Strategic Plan.

The NCRC is a local coalition working to improve access to food, provide comprehensive nutrition education, and connect food and nutrition resources throughout Rock County. The Collaborative was formed in 2022 and quickly began work to establish itself as one of Rock County's leading groups addressing nutrition and food access. The group includes members from Rock County Public Health, local healthcare systems, school districts, nonprofits, and other local organizations.

Vision: Food access, nutrition education, community connection.

Mission: Improving health outcomes through collaboration by connecting resources, increasing access to healthy foods, and providing nutrition education.

Community Commitments:

  • We are committed to addressing the root causes and barriers that contribute to food and nutrition insecurity.

  • We are committed to a community centered approach.

  • We are committed to promoting healthy eating.

Our Work in Action

The NCRC works to improve food access and nutrition through:

  • Connecting with Rock County residents through surveys and outreach at local community events
  • Evaluating the food environment, including local grocery stores and other food retailers, through evidence-based tools
  • Raising awareness of food insecurity and its impact on chronic diseases like high blood pressure, heart disease and diabetes
  • Reviewing local, state, and national data to inform and improve local efforts
  • Organizing programs and initiatives that encourage healthy eating habits among all age groups

Impact on Rock County

Consistent access to food and good nutrition is essential in ensuring Rock County can reach its full health potential. In Rock County, many residents live in areas with low access to food, and as a result, are at higher risk of chronic diseases like high blood pressure, heart disease and diabetes. The NCRC will not only bring attention to the food access issues impacting the County, but it will help find solutions and remove barriers that prevent Rock County residents from living an active, healthy life.
